Abstract
Adolescence is a time when a person experiences a transition from childhood to adulthood. The search for identity makes teenagers often try new things to be accepted or get peer group recognition. One of the things done by teenagers is to choose a different type of music from the old group and identical to the young. Hardcore music is one of the genres of music that is favored by young people because it voices the hearts of young people who are full of rebellion.
The focus of this research is (1) What is the history of the emergence of the Malang City Hardcore (MCHC) community in the city of Malang? (2) What are the reasons why teenagers in Malang city like Hardcore music and join the MCHC community?
The approach used in this research is qualitative research. This type of research uses a descriptive type of research. The presence of the researcher acts as a data collector. The research location is located around Godbless Cafe 2. The data sources used are secondary data and data, with key informants and supporting informants selected by snowball and purposively. Data collection procedures in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. Analysis of the data using the analysis model of Miles and Huberman. To maintain the validity of the findings, triangulation (method, source and time) and referential adequacy were used.
Suggestions for further researchers are to examine the lives of hardcore teenagers outside the perspective of forms of expression or to examine the symbolic interactions of the hardcore music community.
